History
In 1970, while I was a Junior in High School, I put a 425 hp Big Block
in my '64 Corvette. As an inexperienced youth I managed to
attract trouble at every corner so I decided to store it for a year.
In 1971 I starting racing on a local Dragstrip at Oxford Dragway. The
successful results of that year left me with a yearning for more racing.
Many Thanks go out to such individuals as Pete Labonte, Jim Cook, and
John Rines, Not only did they share the same passion, They also
unselfishly lent me their expertise in the art of Drag Racing. After a
very rewarding year, my attention focused more toward married life and
the trucking business
During the mid 90's my Brother Kevin Marsters, began to build chassis
under the trade name Marsters Chassis. He rebuilt my Corvette to a
Super Gas style car. During the twenty fifth pass on a very windy day
I completely destroyed my vette. Good craftsmanship and safety rules
allowed me to walk away.
In 1993 Kevin built my son, Doug a JR Dragster. Young Doug raced the JR
through the end of 1997. During this time period, Kevin started
building a replica '64 vette. I started competing in 1994 with the
vette in the Super Gas/Super Comp classes, in Oxford, Maine and New
England Dragway, in New Hampshire. In 1994 my Daughter, Miranda also
showed her competitive nature in a JR Dragster. As a result both young
racers hold Track Championships in Oxford, Maine and Young Doug holds
a Track Championship in New England Dragway, New Hampshire. Both JR
Dragsters and myself with the vette competed at the Bracket Finals in
Maple Grove, Pennsylvania. We raced at New England Dragway and Oxford
for two seasons before ultimately competing in the NHRA Divisional
Events.
In the fall of 1997 we bought a Marc Rowe Dragster for my son Doug.
He earned his driver's license in February of 1998 and at Lebanon
Valley, New York during the month of March he was awarded his
competition license. We ran locally in the class of Super Comp and
Quick Rod, bouncing between New England Dragway and NHRA Divisionals
as well as Majors.
In August of 1998, my Step-Son Jamie Madison earned his NHRA license
at Oxford Plains Dragway located in Oxford, Maine.
In the spring of 1999 we competed at the Gatornationals in Gainesville,
Florida where I ran 3 rounds and my Son finished in the Quarter Finals
after five rounds, only to be ousted by former World Champ Edmond
Richardson. We competed in a total of six Divisionals and I finished
fifth in points in the NorthEast Division in Super Comp. My Son
finished in fifth place at New England Dragway.
In the year of 2000 we cut back a little and tried racing smarter. It
worked. Doug was runner up at the Matco Tools Spring Nationals in New Jersey
and won a Super Comp race in Atco. He also won two of two Big Bracket
Bashes held at Oxford Dragway, Oxford, Maine.
We could not have accomplished all of this without the assistance of
my Step Son Chief Jamie Madison and my Daughter Assistant Chief Miranda
Marsters. Jamies duties are to keep the crew on top of things. Miranda
does the weather and computer work. Dials the cars, records information
while Jamie is checking tire pressure and doing safety checks. Wife and
Mother, Paula keeps us all going. It truly is a Family sport.
